How do I apply for membership?

You will need to provide evidence of your training, qualifications, and professional indemnity insurance (where applicable). Applications are reviewed by our registrar and you will be notified of the outcome by email.

What documents do I need to apply?

Requirements vary by tier. Generally you will need: proof of Thai massage training and qualifications, a valid professional indemnity insurance certificate (for Associate, Practitioner, and Instructor tiers), and a completed application form. Student applicants should provide evidence of current enrolment in an accredited training programme.

How long does the application process take?

Most applications are reviewed within 10–15 working days of receipt of all required documents. You will receive an acknowledgement email when your application is received and a decision email once it has been reviewed. If additional information is required, our registrar will contact you directly.

Can I apply for a fee waiver?

Yes. UKTMRC offers fee waivers for applicants who are unable to afford the membership fee due to financial hardship. A fee waiver application form is available on the /apply page. All fee waiver requests are treated in strict confidence and assessed on a case-by-case basis.

How do I renew my membership?

Membership is renewed annually. You will receive renewal reminder emails at 30, 14, and 3 days before your renewal date. You can renew through the Member Portal at /portal using your email address and membership reference number. Failure to renew on time may result in removal from the public register.

What is the public register?

The UKTMRC Public Register is a searchable directory of all current registered members. Members of the public can use the register at /register to verify that a Thai massage practitioner is a current UKTMRC member in good standing. The register displays the member's name, tier, and registration status.

Why should I check the register before booking a treatment?

Checking the register helps you verify that your practitioner meets UKTMRC's professional standards, holds appropriate qualifications, and is covered by professional indemnity insurance. Choosing a registered practitioner gives you confidence that they are committed to safe, ethical, and high-quality practice.

What does it mean if a practitioner is not on the register?

A practitioner not listed on the UKTMRC register may not have met our membership criteria, may have allowed their membership to lapse, or may have chosen not to register with us. We recommend asking any practitioner about their qualifications, insurance, and professional memberships before booking a treatment.

How do I raise a complaint about a registered practitioner?

You can submit a formal complaint via our online complaints form at /complaints. We accept complaints from members of the public, clients, and other professionals. All complaints are acknowledged within 5 working days and investigated in accordance with our complaints procedure. You can track the status of your complaint through our complaints team.

What happens after I submit a complaint?

Once received, your complaint is logged and assigned a reference number. You will receive an acknowledgement email within 5 working days. Our complaints team will review the information provided, may request additional evidence, and will investigate in accordance with our published complaints procedure. You will be kept informed of progress and the outcome.

What standards are UKTMRC members expected to meet?

All UKTMRC members are expected to adhere to our Code of Professional Standards, which covers competence, ethics, client safety, confidentiality, professional development, and conduct. Our standards documents are available in the Policies section at /policies.

Is CPD required to maintain UKTMRC membership?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is strongly encouraged for all registered members and is a requirement for Practitioner and Instructor tier members. CPD helps ensure that practitioners maintain and develop their skills and knowledge in line with current best practice. Guidance on CPD requirements is provided in your membership documentation.
